A vendor page that says "third-party tested" is making a claim about a document, not about the compound. For 5-Amino-1MQ that gap is wider than usual, because this is the odd one out in the peptide catalogue: a small molecule sold as a salt, where the identity line on a report has to say which form it measured before the purity figure means anything at all.

What a "third-party tested" claim is actually asserting

The phrase is unregulated and costs nothing to print. At its strongest it means an outside laboratory, with no financial stake in the sale, received a sample from a specific batch and reported what it found. At its weakest it means someone once sent something somewhere, and the resulting page has no batch number, no laboratory name, no method and no date. Nothing about the phrase itself tells you which of those you are looking at. A small molecule, not a peptide: why the usual checks shift

Most guidance about vetting a research vial assumes a peptide, and 5-Amino-1MQ is not one. It is a small molecule that acts on the enzyme NNMT, and the data sheet at /peptides/5-amino-1mq covers that distinction in full. Purity by HPLC still applies and still means roughly what it means elsewhere: how much of what was measured is the thing being claimed, against everything else in the sample. Identity is where the analogy breaks. A peptide is confirmed largely by mass, because a 30-amino-acid chain has a distinctive molecular weight and a wrong sequence usually lands somewhere obviously different. A small molecule supplied as a salt has more than one legitimate mass, and both of them are correct answers to the question "is this 5-Amino-1MQ".[1, 2]

Which salt is in the vial

The name 5-Amino-1MQ covers more than one substance. The active cation, 5-amino-1-methylquinolinium, has a molecular weight of 159.21 and CAS number 685079-15-6. The form research material is usually supplied as is the iodide salt, molecular weight 286.11 and CAS number 42464-96-0. Those are different entries in PubChem, with different registry numbers and different masses. That makes the identity line on a report do work it does not do for a peptide. A mass-spectrometry result reading only "identity confirmed" has not said which of the two it confirmed, and the two differ by 127 mass units, which is not a subtle distinction. A report worth reading states the form it tested, states the expected mass for that form, and states the mass it measured. A vendor listing that gives a compound name and a purity percentage with no CAS number, or a CAS number with no statement of which form it refers to, has not identified the material.[1, 2]

Purity is not identity

These are two separate questions and a single percentage answers only one of them. Purity asks how much of the sample is the main component. Identity asks whether that main component is the compound on the label. A cleanly synthesised wrong compound returns an excellent purity figure, because the number describes homogeneity rather than correctness. A report that gives a high purity percentage and no identity method has told you the material is consistent, not that it is 5-Amino-1MQ. For this compound the identity half is the half that carries the salt-form ambiguity, which is exactly why it is the half most worth reading.

Where the lookup link should point

Many listings now carry a QR code or a short link labelled as the batch report. What matters is the domain it opens. A link that lands on the analysing laboratory's own site, showing a report the laboratory itself hosts, is a check you can complete independently. A link that lands back on the vendor's own domain, serving an image the vendor uploaded, is the vendor repeating its own claim in a different font. The same applies to a PDF with no laboratory letterhead, no analyst, no instrument and no method section. What no report can tell you

A clean report describes a batch of material and nothing else. It does not say the compound has been studied in people, and for 5-Amino-1MQ nothing has: registry searches for 5-Amino-1MQ, for the broader term NNMT inhibitor, and for methylquinolinium each return zero registered human studies. A vial can be exactly what the label says, at the purity the label claims, and still be a compound with no human evidence behind it. One thing this guide will not give you

There is no published analysis of 5-Amino-1MQ bought online, so there is no mislabeling rate, no average purity and no failure percentage for this compound that anyone can honestly quote. Figures of that kind exist for some other compounds sold through the same channels, and they do not transfer: a rate measured on a different molecule, in a different market, at a different time, describes that study and not this vial. Any page that presents a specific 5-Amino-1MQ failure rate is extrapolating, and the honest position is to say the number does not exist.
